Living with someone afflicted with Alzheimer's disease isn’t an easy task. For many Fort Lauderdale area caregivers, relief arrives when a trained aide or companion spends time with their loved one. Families can breathe knowing that they can trust the person who cares for their beloved spouse, parent or grandparent. This type of true caring and concern is what an agency like Comfort Keepers is all about. (http://www.comfortkeepers.com/)
Working together to provide support during this difficult time is groups dedicated to both patients and their devoted caregivers. The Alzheimer's Association wants everyone touched by this disease to know that support is always available. 24/7 telephone helpline can be found by phoning toll free at 800-272-3900.
The Alzheimer's Association sponsors a Support Group for people living in Broward County. These meetings are held on the first and third Saturday morning of the month, at Holy Cross Hospital, 4725 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Everyone is invited to phone 1-800-272-3900 or 954-491-2499 for more information.

Take the time to speak up, especially for those who cannot speak up for themselves. The Alzheimer's Association of Southeast Florida encourages individuals who are interested to join the Alzheimer's Forum. Advocates on behalf of Alzheimer's and Dementia research, actively work to make legislative change. These actions can be everything from contacting members of Congress, to staying on top of future policies.

People of all backgrounds regularly come together in innovative ways to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease once and for all. Because it is rare to find a family who has never been affected by this illness, it is not unusual to see a mix of generations join in this worthy endeavor.
The Southeast Florida “2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's” raises much needed funds to support the important research sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association. Walkers on this 2.5 non-competitive route register without fee. Schools, civic and church groups are encouraged to join the fun. As a reminder because this organization is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity, every donation pledged to the cause is tax deductive.

This team event raises awareness and funds annually, on the occasion of the solstice on June 20th, 2016. Teams create their own activities to be held from sunrise through sunset. Typically these activities could involve volunteering with Alzheimer's patients at Senior Day Centers, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities. Both in-person and virtual teams also strive to raise $1,600 as their goal.
